LOTTA OLSSON

Re-Fresh - Re-Emerge

work-on-paper

May-August 2021 | Artwork

Gurari Collections is pleased to present Swedish artist Lotta Olsson’s third solo exhibition, re-fresh - re-emerge. Lotta Olsson, like some many other creative artists, has used her time during the 2020 year to continue merging the real and imagined in her new work-on-paper.

Since early childhood Olsson has lived by, and with nature, in Southern Sweden. She has been immersed from early age in learning about the forest and natural habitat, as well as developing interest in forest folklore. From the simplest detail of a tree nut, to the silhouette of a tree’s branches, or the grandeur of a mighty Oak, Lotta Olsson is immersed in her natural surroundings.

After many years of collecting visual images of nature’s inventory, she has a vast resource in her self-described “digital herbarium”. Of no less importance though, are the sights, sounds, and memories from treks and travel that blend with her artwork. Altogether, these real and imagined imprints coalesce into delicate and bold imaginative works of the forest and its flora and fauna.

Her process is to detail, by digital photography, leaves, flowers, moss, twigs and other forest specimen. Using illustration, Olsson incorporates the digital images of the real, with the vines and armatures of her imagined trees.

Lotta Olsson has an undergraduate degree in Graphic Design from Göteborg Universitet, and an MFA in Graphic Design and Illustration from The University of Stockholm’s KONSTFACK University College of Arts, Crafts and Design. Her imaginative trees have been exhibited in Sweden, Germany, Italy, South Korea, and at the Affordable Art Fair in London. This is her third exhibition with Gurari Collections in the United States.
