Floor Lamp - Mid-century industrial floor lamp, made in France by RG Levallois embossed on iron base. Circa 1940’s. R.G. Levallois was an industrial equipment company based out of Levallois-Perret, a northwestern suburb of Paris famous as a historical hub for the French automotive industry (housing early facilities for brands like Citroën).
Unusual industrial floor lamp with iron base on casters. With cast iron base and articulating aluminum multi-light lamp. Metal pacue stamped 11/895 affixed to base.
While it closely resembles vintage hospital surgical lights, its actual original purpose was automotive. This model, often called the "Carrossier" (coachbuilder or body shop) lamp, was specifically engineered for drying automotive paint and bodywork in French garages.
The seven-light aluminum reflector dome (known colloquially in France as a "gamelle") was original fitted with high-heat incandescent or infrared bulbs. The heavily weighted cast iron wheeled base allowed mechanics to easily roll the large structure around the shop floor and position the heat exactly where a car panel or engine bay needed baking or targeted illumination.
Adjustable height up to approximately 84” x 22 ½” wide at lighting fixture and 15 ½” deep
Condition: very good with age wear consistent with age. Marks, dings, oxidation and surface wear are visible. This lamp retains an excellent original structural patina.
